It is very important that original reference photos are very clear and crisp and provided in high resolution. This is because I print your photograph/s in large size and use them as a visual reference on my easel. This ensures that every detail, every contour and every angle are captured as accurately as possible.
Please follow these guidelines when selecting suitable photographs:
- As the owner and supplier of the original photograph(s) which you provide me to draw from, you accept all responsibility for the copyright and/or licensing of said photograph(s).
- Make sure your chosen photo captures the 'essence' and personality of the person to be drawn. For example, a photo may be 'nice' but it may not accurately capture that persons real spark and personality. Children, for example, may put on their 'photo face' or 'photo smile' for the camera and, while it may look nice in a photo, it may not accurately capture who they really are. Your portrait is a timeless keepsake and should accurately reflect the subjects true essence.
- Photographs should be provided either via email or in original format (by post, courier or drop off) which will scanned in at high resolution.
- Emailed photos must be very high-resolution (approximately 300 pixels and 1.5 to 2mb in size).
- Please note that small resolution images may appear fine on screen but when printed can be very pixelated. This is because your computer screen requires much less pixels to make up an image than a printed image.
- It is recommended that smaller thumbnail versions be emailed through initially to assess suitability. Once a suitable photograph has been selected, please then email your high resolution version.
- Photographs must be clear and crisp and clearly show the face/faces to be drawn - a close up photograph of the head and shoulders is preferred.
- Front on poses work best but a beautiful portrait can still be achieved from the correct slightly side on or profile shot.
- Photographs must show fine detail of the face (such as eyelashes and eyebrows).
- Fine Etch may not accept your commission if the subject is too far away, the photograph does not show fine detail, is low resolution or is fuzzy or pixelated.
- I will advise you if your photograph is not suitable prior to commencement of your portrait.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding your photographs and their suitability for pencil portraiture.
